About
Discover the story behind Peony & Thyme, from owner and creator, Katerina.

Being outdoors in the country always brings me joyful memories. My grandmother used to love peonies and she had a lot of them growing in the garden. We used to cut flowers every weekend to bring back to our home in the city.
As I grew up my love for flowers never changed. Every time I went to shop for groceries I always bought a bunch of flowers to take home.
A few years back we moved to Moira and I decided it was time to create a garden that my children can also enjoy. And you could probably guess the first flowers I planted – among many others – were of course peonies. Beautiful burgundy peonies, just like my nanny had.
I love lots of different flowers, but peonies, garden roses, dahlias and hydrangea are among my favourites. I love bringing flowers into the house, they bring such a lovely fragrance and joy into my space. Whenever we go on holiday in Europe I always visit markets and flower shops to discover flowers that aren’t widely available back home. You can get so much inspiration.
After lockdown I was looking for a career change and decided I needed to do something that brings me joy and has a positive effect on my mental health. So, I signed up for my first ever flower art class. My first flower design was a flower arrangement with candles and my teacher told me that I have a natural flare for it. I’m now doing my Level 3 in Flower Design and absolutely love it.
I started Peony & Thyme in December 2023. Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I am one of those people who starts decorating the house rather early each year! So it all started with Christmas door wreaths and floral centrepieces for festive dining tables. Burgundy, pinks, red and blues are my favourite colours to go for, and you can probably see it by looking at my flower designs, which very much represent my personality.
